08.06.2004 Doomed I'm bummed out just now. (Before I get into my point, I've noticed that I'm about to complain about not being able to buy something. Again. Obviously while I wasn't looking someone stamped the word CONSUMER on my forehead.) Doom 3 was released on Tuesday, August 3rd, at midnight. (idsoftware, doom3.com) Like an apparently large number of other American consumers of my description, I really got into the first two games of this series. In fact the original Doom was the first game to really start me on the buy-better-computer-hardware-so-I-can-play-a-game path. I've never since found another game that does for me what those two things did. I'll never forget that Uhmmmmmwah sound that the one bigdude makes in Doom 2. My PC at home is pitiful at this point. I built it in 2001. It's still running Windows 98 because my semi-pro multi-in/out audio card isn't really supported in any newer operating systems. I've got a generic video card that cost 30 bucks about two years ago. In order to play Doom 3 I'd need, at the very least, a new motherboard, processor, RAM, and video card. Possibly a better monitor. Of course I just bought Cousin Ed. I haven't made a payment yet (aside from the downpayment.) The next time we've got any extra cash my wife's going to use it to paint her office. I mean she's not going to paint the office with extra cash, as that doesn't really stick to the walls very well. Although she is going to paint it green. Of course her computer is much newer than mine. I don't even think it's a year old yet. Hmmmm. I mean Uhmmmmmwahhh. |
