misc.

This ezrael guy has some well-written stuff. Nice simple design too. I want to say more about it but I don't know what. I'm in the office again so I can't even spend the right amount of time reading it all let alone commenting.

The second topic from this ephemeron blog entry is excellent. And tiny. Any reference to Zevon is okay by me.

The little eyeball picture on the entry above that one reminded me of something I thought about writing about yesterday. I could't decide what to say about it, what the point was; I still can't, but in the interest of getting it down and getting on with my bad self here goes. In the server room that my company shares with a couple of different companies, one of the other companies has recently installed a little desktop lamp. The main lights in that room are kept off; so when they added this lamp I noticed immediately, as the place wasn't pitch black anymore when I went in there. Just yesterday I noticed that the lamp is illuminating a shelf of their server rack that also has a little webcam dealy sitting on it. I looked at it and saw that it was pointed at a SecureID card's display. I'm trying to figure out what the hell the point of that is. It must be internal.

I've been listening to a double CD from The Strawbs (official site here) that I bought recently. Called Halcyon Days. It's hard to find their stuff, and I'd never really listened to any previously even though they're often lumped in with other artists I like a lot (Tull, Genesis...) I'm desparately wanting to get a hold of some of their full albums now, this stuff is excellent. Definitely falls into the british folk-influenced progressive school, in some places like a cross between early Fairport Convention (Sandy Denny sang with The Strawbs very early on, too) and Tull. And Steeleye Span. I'm pretty sure their output has been uneven, maybe more so than their contemporaries. I've had a vinyl copy of their "Burning For You" album for about a year now, and didn't get much out of it when a friend of mine gave it to me. It came after all of the material on this CD set I've got, and from what I remember it's no where near as powerful as this stuff. (With the exception of the opening track - I remember digging it a lot.)
